Miroslav Imrich (1953-2024) was a Czech singer and composer, known mainly for his work in the bands
Abraxas] and
Tango.
He began his musical career in the band Mentols. He went through the ensembles
Variace, Galaxie and Atomový dudy and in 1977 joined the recently formed group
Abraxas. After a while, however, he began to feel a lack of application of his own ideas and compositions, so he left
Abraxas in 1983 and merged his working life with the
Tango project. With
Tango he entered the wider public consciousness.
Tango performed extensively, was frequently on television and radio, and recorded records with Supraphon. Imrich profiled himself not only as a singer, but also as a composer. In 1986, he and
Tango won the Bratislava Lyra, performed in Geneva with Olympic, and toured 750 concerts in Poland, Germany and Bulgaria. Upon their return, a feeling of burnout set in and
Tango broke up in the spring of 1988.
Imrich went on to form the metal band
Alarm, then the electronic group
Technofactory in 1991 and in 2007 he reformed
Tango.
Towards the end of his life, he fought a battle with cancer and jumped in front of a train on May 4, 2024.
