American experimental psychedelic rock band from Los Angeles, California (USA) led by Ya Ho Wha aka Father Yod (real name James Edward Baker). Baker was the leader of the Source Family, a spiritual commune based in a Hollywood Hills mansion who also operated health food restaurant The Source, located on the Sunset Strip near Laurel Canyon. During a prolific 11 month period between 1973 and 1974, the Family recorded a series of jam sessions worth over 60 full-length albums. Initially 9 self-released limited pressings came out on [l105372], their private label. They were sold exclusively through their store The Hermit Hut, which was next to their restaurant.
