Doo wop vocal harmony group from Philadelphia, USA.
Their original line up comprised of
Joseph Pirollo a.k.a. Junior (lead), Joseph Paparella (second tenor),
Joe Milaro (baritone) and
James Testa (first tenor) but soon before they recorded in 1958 Joseph Paparella was replaced by
Joseph Pirollo's brother in law
Robert Finizio. In 1959
Joseph Pirollo and
Robert Finizio became members of The Four Naturals and one year later in 1960
Robert P. Marcucci of Chancellor wanted a vocal group to back up
Fabian in the studio recordings and tours, so The Four J's became The Fabulous Four (3) with
Joseph Pirollo,
Robert Finizio,
James Testa and
Ernie Spano from another group that recorded at Chancellor,
The Four Dates,
Ernie Spano replaced
Joe Milaro and backed
Fabian in several recordings, mostly uncredited, as well as back vocalists in Sonny Vito and Maureen Gray releases. In 1963 they renamed again themselves The Four J's adding
Johnny October from
The Four Dates in their line up, recording their biggest hit
By Love Possessed at Jamie.
