John Prince Gilbert (1958–2024) was a saxophonist from New Orleans, known for his significant contributions to the city's brass band tradition. He was an original member of the Rebirth Brass Band and also played with groups like the Hot 8, New Birth, and Treme brass bands. Gilbert helped shape the role of the saxophone in contemporary brass band music, blending funk, soul, and jazz into the vibrant soundscape of New Orleans. His legacy continues through his son, Orlando Gilbert, who is also a saxophonist.
