Hawaii-based rock and pop show band consisting of Don Gay, Terry Lucido, Roberto Nievera, Stan Robertson, Danny Ruvivar,Tony Ruvivar, Jr. and Bert Sagum. Tony and Danny Ruvivar were brothers. The group was founded by Tony Ruvivar. In 1969, the group with this line-up opened at the Outrigger Hotel Main Showroom. Their four-week engagement continued for four decades, making them the act to play the longest at a showroom in Waikiki. It was this same line-up that appeared on the [m675629] album released in 1970.

In 1971, Danny Ruvivar died and then in 1982, Terry Lucido died. Over a period of time Don Gay, Roberto Nievera and Stan Robertson had left to pursue other things. Notable replacements were Gary Bautista, “Little Albert” Maligmat (Lil Albert), master impressionist Jun Polistico and Eddie Ramirez. Over the years, musicians to come through the group included Randy Abellar, Tony Davich, Jun Estanislao, Roy Guerzo, Michael Layco, Vincent Mendoza, Mitch Morala, Billy Rivera, Alfredo Romero, Tony Anthony Lee Smith, Roy Venturina and Bob Wilson. In its last years, the group had Tony Ruvivar, Bert Sagum, Hoku Low (joined in 1977) and Wayne Wakai (joined in 1989) as its core.

In 2009, the original SOS returned for a three-night 40th anniversary show.

Founder Tony Ruvivar died at age 79 on July 3rd, 2020.

2007: Winner for the group of a Nā Hōkū Hanohano Lifetime Achievement Award under the auspices of the Hawaiʻi Academy of Recording Arts.
