Pierre Culliford (25 June 1928, Brussels, Belgium — 24 December 1992, ibid.) was a prolific Belgian cartoonist, graphic novels author, and character designer best known under the artistic pseudonym Peyo and renowned as the creator of The Smurfs and Johan & Peewit. He had two children, Thierry Culliford (b. 1955) and Véronique Culliford (b. 1958).
