Heinz Korupp learned to play brass instruments at the age of 16 with the local trombone choir of Wichmannsburg.
In 1955 he joined the Posaunenchor Harburg, an association of about 20 men and women between the ages of 17 and 70 years. He took over the direction of this trombone choir in 1963. This choir was founded in 1988 and consists mostly of amateur musicians who deal with exceptionally high instrumental standards as well as with the melodic and textual content of traditional church hymns.

The choir celebrated its 100th anniversary under his direction in 1988 (see Bläser- Und Orgelmusik (100 Jahre Posaunenchor Harburg 1888–1988)).
For 45 years, from 1963 to 2008, he led the Posaunenchor Harburg, which was associated with the Evangelical Lutheran church district of Hamburg-Ost, and was the man who set the tone at countless performances.

Church wind music under Heinz Korupp experienced quite a significant change. He ensured the integration of organ and percussion with three timpani into the brass section. The composer Magdalene Schauß-Flake and the composer Rolf Schweizer received corresponding commissions.

He received the following awards for his voluntary work in the choir:

- 1998: Bugenhagen-Medaille; by the then bishop Maria Jepsen in the Hamburg main church St. Michaelis,
- 2006: Harburger Musikpreis; received from Ernst Brennecke and Prof. Dr. Hermann Rauhe from the Musik im Talks association,
- 2008: Certificate for 45 years of choral direction; received from the Evangelischen Posaunendienst Deutschland e.V.,
- 2013: Certificate for 60 years of active trombone playing; received from the mentioned above umbrella organization,
- 2015: Bundesverdienstkreuz to crown his glory; presented by Hamburg's Senator for Culture Prof. Barbara Kisseler.

Born 1936, Hamburg-Altona Germany and died 2016.
