Jamaican Ska & Reggae vocal trio formed by Toots Hibbert, Nathaniel Jerry Matthias & Henry Raleigh Gordon in 1961 as The Vikings and made their first recordings in 1962 for coxsone Dodd. They later changed their name to The Maytals then finally to Toots & The Maytals (some sources say from a Byron Lee’s idea following the death of producer Leslie Kong but it seems to have been used on some 1960s releases like [m=406027] or [m=666607]).
