He was one of the most renowned singer/songwriters in Nicaragua and Central America, also as a poet, painter and ecologist. With his sister Katia Cardenal, they formed the duo Guardabarranco. Sadly he died March 2010 after being constantly hospitalized suffering from a rare disease.
