American folk singer-songwriter and guitarist from California, who wrote Buy For Me The Rain and other songs for the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Noonan came out of the same late-1960s Orange County singer-songwriter scene that spawned
Tim Buckley and
Jackson Browne. After he was signed to Elektra, Noonan started recording his debut album in New York with producer Paul Rothchild. Because of a serious row, the record was released but received no promotion or company support. Noonan then formed a band in Santa Cruz in the early 1970s. He also did a demo for Columbia around that time but the label didn't release anything by him or the band. After a dry spell, Noonan has made a comeback around 2008-2010.
Do not confuse with
Steve Noonan the engineer.
