Казимир Малевич (February 23, 1878, Kiev, Ukraine - May 15, 1935, Leningrad, USSR) was a modernist painter and art theoretician, pioneer of geometric abstract art and the originator of the avant-garde Suprematist movement.
His name can be transliterated variously as Kazimir Malevich, Kazimierz Malewicz, Kasimir Malewitsch, Kasimir Malevitch and Kazimir Malevič, among others.
