The Gebirgsmusikkorps der Bundeswehr was founded in Sonthofen in 1956 under the name
Musikkorps VI B and a few months after its foundation it moved to Mittenwald in 1 August 1956. In October 1956, the music corps was divided into Music Corps VI A in Munich, (which became
Heeresmusikkorps 4 in Regensburg in 16 March 1959), and into Music Corps VI B , which became
Heeresmusikkorps 8, later in 16 March 1959 the band was renamed
Gebirgsmusikkorps. In 23 March 1963 the band moved to Garmisch-Partenkirchen and was renamed
Gebirgsmusikkorps 8Previously, the band was located in the 1. Gebirgsdivision, until in 2001 the 1. Gebirgsdivision was dissolved and the band was renamed
Gebirgsmusikkorps Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
In 2013 the band was transferred to the Streitkräfteamt (Office of the German Armed Forces) and was renamed
Gebirgsmusikkorps der Bundeswehr
