This saxophonist earned a doctorate in musicology from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1982. Influenced by R&B sax man King Curtis, he played in a Kansas City jazz group. Now he plays only gospel-oriented music, touring with a 13-member combo. Allmusic.com
