Belgian drummer, composer, arranger, bandleader and painter; born on 31 July 1921 in Brussels (Belgium); died on 9 December 2022 in La Garde-Freinet (France).

He started out as jazz drummer in Brussels, becoming a full-time musician in 1938. In 1958 he founded the latin dance orchestra Chakachas. He first retired from music in 1966 to focus on painting but returned for a reassembling of the Chakachas in 1970. He most famously played percussion on Jungle Fever, the track that lent its name to the resulting album and became a sample staple. After this one last album he retired from music for good, moving to the Côte d'Azur and becoming a painter again.

Do not confuse with Belgian surrealist art painter Gaston Bogaert (2) (1918-2008)
