A producer, composer and musician from east London, England, Peter Coyte is descendant of Huguenot refugees.
He began making soundscapes as
Shape Navigator signed to William Orbit's Guerilla Records in 1994 before moving on to produce and do remix work for artists like Sean Paul, Coldcut, Metallica, Human League, and Seal.
Introduced to
Salena Godden during a recording session with
DJ Delruby in 1997 (where the first thing Salena said to Peter was ‘Show me yours and I’ll show you mine’), their first collaborative release was an album entitled Egg Yolk Planet Fried under the name of
Salena Saliva and the PC Collective on Saltpetre Records in 1999. In the same year, they created and produced Saltpetre Radio, a poetry concept show for CD and radio.
As a band, they now perform and record as
SaltPeter.
Mr. Coyte furthermore does a substantial amount of compositions and production work for installation, performance, film, documentaries, and TV with long-running cohort and performance artist
John Paul Zaccarini.
