Armenian-American singer, songwriter and actress. Born November 2, 1915 in Chicago, Illinois. Died October 3, 2011 in New York City, New York.
Her career in show business spanned almost six decades, as she worked in radio, television, onstage in film, and recording and composing songs.
Armen began her singing career by winning an amateur contest, then sang on Chicago stations for two years. Moved to Nashville, Tennessee, singing on WSM. In 1947, she had her own weekly 15-minute program, Kay Armen-Songs, on NBC-Blue. From 1948 to 1952 she and Dick Brown were the featured singers on the ABC radio network's popular quiz show, Stop the Music.
Armen appeared in a number of television roles, notably in the 1959 NBC sitcom Love and Marriage, and on the big screen in the 1955 musical Hit the Deck and the 1961 film Hey, Let's Twist!.
Armen was also a songwriter with compositions including Be Good to Yourself, My Love and I and It’s a Sin to Cry Over You.
