Mathias Kom is a Canadian songwriter and academic. Born in Woodstock Ontario, Kom spent his childhood in Winnipeg, Manitoba and his adolescence in Kingston, Ontario. Since then he has divided his time between Peterborough, ON; St. John's, NL; and Berlin, Germany. A critically acclaimed songwriter, Kom releases most of his efforts as The Burning Hell. A frequent collaborator, other projects have been released as Spring Breakup, The Body, The Fox and The Gorgeous Georgies. His work has received many accolades for its wit, humour and wordplay. Currently, Kom is a Doctoral candidate at Memorial University of Newfoundland completing research on the economics of DIY touring. He is also a co-owner of Headless Owl Records and a co-founder of Lawnya Vawnya, an arts and music festival in St. John's, Newfoundland.
