Jamaican Rocksteady vocal group formed in 1964 (the first time they took this name, it was at Kingston’s Havana Club concert in 1964). they start with 5 members (with the name The Mericoles) and end up as a classic trio (at the time).
They made their first recordings for
Clement Coxsone Dodd in 1965 with
The Skatalites on the [l302006] label. They won a first contest in 1963 with until the dance through ([m1314668]) and another in 1966 with Ma and Pa ([m1210566]) and in 1967 they won the famous Jamaican Festival Song with Ba Ba Boom ([m395196]) with Tommy McCook & The Supersonics.
They disbanded in 1972.
Mostly known for the songs Ba Ba Boom (that won the Island’s Festival Song Contest in 1967) and Things You Say You Love produced by
Arthur Duke Reid for Treasure Isle.
