Glasgow based UK keyboarder, remixer, producer and technician. Additionally, he was keyboarder of
Simple Minds from 2002 to 2017. As a part of the band, he also had additional functions as songwriter, arranger and technical expert.
Gillespie appears first on a release in 1993, where he is credited for programming work. In 1994, he joins Glasgow based company Sound Control as Group Marketing Director. This function leads him to broaden his skills and he appears in the following years also as a producer and musician. He is mainly involved in House Music releases of that time, where he also appears occasionally as remixer.
In 1998, he starts his first work with Glasgow based record company and label [l18]. This label belongs to
Dave Clarke and
Slam, in the years 1998 to 2002, he does different work for Soma and corresponding sublabels as [l646] and is often connected with Glasgow based company and studio [l3043].
He appears on many releases by
Slam directly as a contributor in different roles. In 2002, Glasgow based band
Simple Minds are in search of a keyboarder for their forthcoming tour. After a short time, Andy Gillespie is chosen for this role and disappears from the Glasgow scene for the world-spanning tour. From this point, Andy Gillespie is integrated into the band for the next 15 years. Aside from his keyboard performances, he is actively inolved in all their releases in the following year, where he continues to work on different contributions following his broad skills again. In 2017, Andy retires from the band as their keyboarder from personal reasons. The band states, that even after leaving the band, Andy is still associated with the band and a well-seen guest contributor for their future work.
