Straight led a band at the Rendezvous Café in the second floor of the Rienzi Hotel in Chicago where he stayed, on and off (1922-26).
As a songwriter, he was known for King of the Bungaloos (co-written by Gene Greene), I Love You, Sunday and Funny, Dear, What Love Can Do (co-written by Joe Bennett, George A. Little).
