Orchestra first created conceptually by Gerard Hoffnung for his second book, The Hoffnung Symphony Orchestra, and then brought into reality in 1956, with the inception of the annual Hoffnung Music Festival, which was continued after Hoffnungꞌs untimely death in 1959.
