American actor.
Born 30 January 1914 in Traverse City, MI - died 9 February 1995 in Santa Monica, CA.
His career on stage and in flim and televions spannined nearly 50 years. He was the first to receive a Tony award for acting, winning the Best Supporting or Featured Actor (Musical) Award for
Finian's Rainbow in 1948; later receiving his second Tony for Best Actor (Dramatic) in 1954 for
The Teahouse of the August Moon. He was also nominated in 1968 as Best Actor (Musical) for
The Happy Time.
He retired completely in 1993 after the death of his wife of 52 years, Jane Gordon Trix.
