American hard bop, post-bop pianist, songwriter and label owner. Based in Los Angeles, he established the label [l71009]. He recorded extensively with Jackie McLean during the 1960s, and also recorded with Ornette Coleman, Kenny Burrell, Bud Shank, Beaver & Krause and others.
