The group was founded in 1987 by former members of Veselých Filištínů with the intention to try something in the spirit of Test Dept, specifically Petr Trpák, Jan Duspěva, Irena Kraftová (Trpáková), Elen Řádová, Zdeněk Buchal, Mojmír Pukl, Michal Brabec, later joined by drummer Miloš Filař and singer Marek Schnierer. Among the friendly projects (also rehearsing in the Šithaus) were Odvážná srdce, Brusičova parta, Květy intimních nálad, Souboj udejchanejch bachyní and Osvobozená domácnost. Around 1990 the ensemble built on a multi-member brass section, but after two years guitar tracks began to appear again. In 1993, the group renamed itself M.A.C. OF MAD.
