She was born to show business parents and was already performing in her parent's song-and-dance vaudeville act by age two. Her mother and grandmother both performed on Broadway as did Connie in the 1950's. While she was still a teenager, Connie was performing at venues across the New York and New Jersey area.
She made her film debut in Melody and Romance (1937) while in England, and by the time she was 16, Russell had signed a contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. She sang on radio and television through the 1940's-50's. She was a regular on Club Embassy, Dave Garroway's Garroway at Large  and on The Buick-Berle Show. She later became a prominent Las Vegas headliner.
