Steve Mandell

Duelling Banjos

Died March 14, 2018. Best known as the guitar player on the song “Dueling Banjos” from the 1972 soundtrack of the movie Deliverance. Prior to that, Mandell was part of the NYC folk and bluegrass scene in the 1960s. In 1962 he was a member of the bluegrass band Marie & the Washington Square Ramblers.
He was also a studio musician, and appeared on recordings by Judy Collins and John Denver, among others.
