American journalist, music critic and educator, born on 28 July 1954 in New York and currently based in Portland, Oregon. Typically credited as Liner Notes author on classical music releases. Allan Kozinn studied at Syracuse University, graduating with Bachelor's degrees in music (1976) and journalism (1972–77). He was best known as The New York Times staff writer between 1991 and 2014. Before that, Allan served as a contributing editor at High Fidelity, was the first New York Observer's music critic and frequently contributed to Guitar Player Magazine, Keyboard Magazine and other publications. From 2004 to 2015, Kozinn taught courses in music criticism, Baroque music literature and the Beatles at New York University.
