Giovanni Contino

Giovanni Contino (c.1513—1574) was an Italian capellmeister (Maestro di cappella) from Brescia, possibly Luca Marenzio's teacher. Contino began his cantor apprenticeship at his hometown's old cathedral, Duomo Vecchio—during the Giovanni Maria Lanfranco's 1528–'33 kapellmeister tenure. In 1562, Giovanni Contino accepted the position at the court of Guglielmo Gonzaga, Duke of Mantua. Upon his return to Brescia, he became chapelmaster at the city's cathedral. Contino spent his remaining years between Brescia and Mantua.
