Chaloff was a faculty member of the New England Conservatory of Music from 1914 to 1943. For over thirty years, he was director of the Chaloff School of Music. In 1919, he married Margaret Vernona Stedman, known professionally as Madame Chaloff, a celebrated piano teacher who died on April 19, 1977; their younger son was Serge Chaloff, a jazz baritone saxophonist.
