The band was formed by Joachim Ernst Berendt on the occasion of the 1969 Berliner Jazztage. The band comprised of European musicians recognized in recent DownBeat polls of jazz . They recorded one album in Berlin as The Down Beat Poll Winners in Europe in November 1969.

During August 1970 this band was sent on a Japanese tour as the European All Stars, organized by Berendt.
