Richard D'Oyly Carte (born May 3, 1844, London, England – died April 3, 1901, London, England) was an English talent agent, theatrical impresario, composer and hotelier during the latter half of the Victorian era. He founded the
D'Oyly Carte Opera Company and built the state-of-the-art Savoy Theater, London to host
Gilbert & Sullivan operas. He also built the [l633625]. Father of
Rupert D'Oyly Carte and grandfather of
Bridget D'Oyly Carte.
