Born on October 11, 1929 in Nashville, TN.
Hugh Jarrett was a well renowned bass singer and disk jockey. His most notable group a was a member of was the Jordanaires. From 1954-58 he sang bass with the Jordanaires singing on the Grand Ole Opry and recording several songs. From 1956-58 he performed with Elvis Presley and appeared on such recordings as “Jailhouse Rock”, “Don’t Be Cruel”, and “Hound dog”. He also appeared in a few of Elvis’ movies.
After leaving the Jordanaires in 1958, Hugh joined the Statues recording songs such as “Blue Velvet” and “Keep the Hall Light Burning”. Hugh later moved to Atlanta where he became a very successful Disk Jockey going under the name “Big Hugh Baby”. He was later inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame and the Georgia Music Hall of Fame.
Hugh died on May 31, 2008 at the age of 78 from complications of a March auto accident.
