American trumpet player, producer, songwriter, arranger, and conductor. Member of [l1723]'s The Funk Brothers from 1959-1972. Formed Pied Piper Productions with Jack Ashford, Mike Terry, and Joe Hunter, a group of Detroit arrangers, writers, artists and musicians who unwittingly defined the Northern Soul style in their short 1965-1967 span. Herbie had an album scheduled to be released in 1963 on the Motown subsidiary [l235440] titled The Soul and Sound of Herbie Williams, catalog number JWS-216. Also released several singles on the [l30331] label.
