He played with, among others, the Count Basie Orchestra, Dave Brubeck, Ella Fitzgerald, Sammy Davis Jr., Mel Tormé, Woody Herman, Benny Goodman, Rosemary Clooney, Frank Sinatra, Lena Horne, and Tony Bennett.
Inducted, 2011, West Virginia Music Hall of Fame.
