Main image

Garage / hard rock band from Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. They began as five piece in early 1992, but by 1995 had trimmed down to the power trio line-up of Tim Hemensley (bass/vocals), John Nolan (guitar) and Timmy Jack Ray (drums). Their sound is influenced by the MC5, Motörhead and Black Flag. Powder Monkeys were a natural follow up to Australian band Bored!, with The Powder Monkeys featuring two members from Bored's 1990 '[m=345356]' line-up. From many first-hand accounts, The Powder Monkeys were THE band to witness live in Melbourne during the mid to late-1990s. The band existed until Tim Hemensley's untimely death on July 21st 2003.
