Julio César Fonseca

Main image

Talented exponent of Cuban salsa (Manzanillo, Cuba, April 12, 1935 - Barranquilla, Colombia, 2002). He was a multi-instrumentalist musician, singer and composer who rose to fame from 5 years of age. His first appearance was in the comparsa of his grandfather called Los princes azules playing guitar and singing.
Since the 70s, Julio César dreamed of leaving Cuba, he wanted to know other countries and other places. With that dream he emigrated to New York, USA, taking part in orchestras like La Fania popularly known as the university of salsa, alternating with great artists such as Johnny Pacheco (founder of Fania AllStar), El Pete Conde, Ismael Miranda, and also with orchestras of great international recognition such as the Harlow Orchestra and the Broadway Orchestra.
In his role as a composer we find songs such as: “De La Opera al Chachachá”, “¿Juego De Qué?”, “Mire Don José”, “Mi Son Es Un Vacilón”, “¿Pregúntame Como Estoy?”, Songs interpreted by Orquesta Aragón de Cuba and Dulce con Dulce, performed by Johnny Pacheco and El Pete Conde Rodríguez, called the Perfecta combination.
He later lived in Venezuela (in the 1980s, worked with El Sexteto la Plata) and Colombia
