SheSays was an Austrian rock band from Vienna (March 2004 - Nov. 2009)
The band was formed in May 2004 by vocalist Gudrun Liemberger, guitarist Andy Liu, bassist Valentin Rosegger and drummer Cathi Priemer.
The singer and songwriter Gudrun Liemberger has a degree in musical, singing and acting. Her younger years had already been marked by music. She had gained band experience in various genres (Irish folk, folk-pop, jazz). She already had a daughter. At the age of 21, drummer Cathi Priemer was the youngest of the quartet, learned to play drums at the age of ten and studied at the Vienna Music Conservatory. She had also previously played in the punk band Pantskirt.
Bassist Valentin Rosegger, who had already played with his band Spit at major concerts, also had band experience. He is also a trained sound engineer. He and Priemer already knew each other when the chance encounter with Liemberger in the rehearsal room laid the foundation for the band in the rehearsal room. They decided to record an album right away, and guitarist Andy Liu completed the group. He also had a lot of band experience and decided not to study music for the band.
In order to attract attention for a record deal, they applied for the Ö3 Soundcheck 2005, in which almost 600 bands participated. In November 2005, they were able to prevail in the final of the best 15 in the listener vote. With their song Rosegardens they conquered the Austrian charts and reached number 2. The video for the single is based on that of the U2 song New Year's Day and takes place in a snow-covered garden where roses grow.
In March 2006, the album was released under the title SheSays, which immediately made it to the top of the LP charts. SheSays was nominated for two Amadeus Austrian Music Awards in 2006 and received it in the category Newcomer of the Year nationally, while she failed to win the Single of the Year 2006. In June 2006 the band performed at the Danube Island Festival in Vienna. In the same year, the band toured across Europe – among others as the opening act for Deep Purple – where they were very successful.
In the spring of 2007, even before the release of a second album, the departure of drummer Cathi Priemer was announced, who wants to devote herself to other projects. She then played in the band of Alex Golda (ex-Starmaniac). The remaining trio then decided to continue without a fixed line-up of drums. Shortly afterwards, the single Open Your Eyes was released, which reached number 39 in the Ö3 Austria Top 40. A few months later, the second album, Want It, was released of the band, which reached number 18 in the charts. SheSays were looking for a new drummer and found what they were looking for in Rainer Schumich. They also toured Central Europe with Bryan Adams. The single Save Me was released on July 27, 2007. A cover version of the song of the same name by the rock band Queen, which reached number 37. On April 25, 2008, the third single, titled Tear Me Down, was released. In the fall of 2008, the band released the song It's Time as a single from the Album Acoustic Live, which this time was released by Homebase Records instead of EMI Music.
In November 2009, the band disbanded due to musical differences. [1] Gudrun Liemberger continues to be musically active under the name GuGabriel.
