Hal Carter (born on July 13, 1935, died on July 13, 2004), first tried his hand at working as a ring-hand with Bertram Mills Circus, before accepting a job offer from impresario Larry Parnes as road manager with Marty Wilde. Over the following years he learnt his trade, touring with many legendary rock artists including Eddie Cochran, Johnny Burnette, Brenda Lee, Gene Vincent and Billy Fury. In the early sixties, Hal was contracted to produce the stage act and tour with The Kinks, The Troggs and The Who, before eventually deciding to open his own agency and management company, The Hal Carter Organisation.
Having extended his interests to record production, success soon came his way. A series of quality productions with Billy Fury were followed by a handful of classic hits in the UK, Europe and South America with Billy Kinsley’s band Liverpool Express. Two more UK chart hits with the group Coast to Coast followed.
In 1994 Hal instigated the launch of the first Solid Gold Rock’n’Roll Show, which played to sell-out audiences and toured again in 1996, 1997, 1999 and 2001. During 1999 Hal Carter was also involved with two other major UK concert tours – the 15th Solid Silver Sixties tour and the third Illegal Eagles tour. Then, in 2000, at Hal’s instigation, Rumours of Fleetwood Mac began touring Great Britain in concert.
Artists currently represented by the Hal Carter Organisation include Slade, The New Seekers, John Leyton, Eden Kane, The Carpenters Story, Rumours of Fleetwood Mac, Wall Street Crash, White Plains (featuring Tony Burrows) and Blondie Goes to Hollywood.
Hal was both dedicated and committed to his artists and clients. He booked and staged performers for the London Borough of Redbridge’s annual show, a massive pop event in aid of Marie Curie Care Nurses and the Variety Club of Great Britain for Cardiff City Council. Other annual involvements include the Golden Years Show at the Sportpalast in Antwerp, Belgium and the Chelmsford Festival.
