O'Malley's early career was as a singer in the 1920s and 30s, then using the stage name Pat O'Malley. O'Malley recorded over 400 songs and frequently worked as a vocalist with Jack Hylton And His Orchestra.
In 1935 O'Malley moved to the United States and eventually started what would become a successful acting career, appearing in numerous films and TV shows between the 40s and 80s. Here, he changed his stage name to J. Pat O'Malley.
O'Malley was a regular voice actor for Walt Disney films and TV shows.
