American jazz trumpeter in the tradition of Louis Armstrong and Bunny Berigan and bandleader. Born February 28, 1915, in New York City, Bronx, New York, died November 16, 1990 in Hollywood, Florida.
Was known throughout his career for his full tone, extensive range and the ability to play in the New Orleans tradition as well as the sweet, ballroom manner of Harry James. From the late 1930s he led his own bands with moderate success. Around 1942 he adopted the name Lee Castle.
