Howell was mostly active in Chicago working with artists like The Impressions, Curtis Mayfield and Terry Callier but he also worked in Los Angeles for a while during the 1950’s, playing trumpet on recordings by Stan Kenton, Shorty Rogers and Cal Tjader.
