Belgian singer and the once self-proclaimed Voice of Europe, born12 July 1932 in Zelzate, East Flanders, died 6 February 2016 ibid.
During his lengthy career he recorded more than 500 songs. There's probably not a single Flemish person who hasn't heard at least one of his tunes. His biggest hit in Belgium and Holland was Chérie, which went double platinum. He has also performed in several large countries, among which China, U.S.A. and the former U.S.S.R.
