American soul singer born in Richmond, Virginia. Charlie changed his name to Don when he joined The Drifters in 1969, to avoid confusion with long-standing member Charlie Thomas. After leaving in 1971, he wrote and performed the northern soul classic Come On Train which was an early Modern Soul track. Since then based in Bronx, New York.
