Swiss violin & viola player.
Renate Steinmann studied violin (under
Nora Chastain) and viola (under Wendy Enderle) at the Conservatorium of Winterthur and Zurich, where she earned her degree with high distinction honours. She began exploring historical performance practice already during her student days, and was able to draw inspiration from
John Holloway and
Thomas Hengelbrock during master classes. As an orchestral musician, she has worked with several renowned conductors including William Christie, Christopher Hogwood and Giovanni Antonini. Ms Steinmann studied under Elisabeth Wallfisch in London for several years where she rounded out her education in baroque and classical repertoire.
