American-German pianist and composer.
Born in Munich, Bavaria in West Germany May 28, 1958. At the age of four, he moved with his family to New Jersey, USA. He began to study classical piano at the age of seven. After hitch-hiking around the US for over a year, he ended up in Boulder, Colorado, where he was influenced by musicians such as Keith Jarrett, The Paul Winter Consort, and the band Oregon. Then, he moved to Virginia before settling in Los Angeles, California, where he would set up his own studio and start a record label, [l50530]. He released his first album in 1983.
Peter Kater has been a leading innovator of contemporary instrumental jazz and New Age music and is known for his collaborations with many talented musicians, most notably,
R. Carlos Nakai. He's performed for presidents and dignitaries and scored the music for over 100 TV & film productions, including some on and off Broadway dramatic plays.
