Though born a Texan, Dillehay moved to Oklahoma City as a teenager and has been a confirmed Oklahoman ever since. He then began a successful and varied career in broadcasting and the arts and thousands of Oklahomans have become familiar with his distinctive voice. His broadcast career included positions as air personality for such radio and television stations as KBYE, KTOW, WKY, KOMA and WKY-TV. He was General Manager of WNAD and later, KOFM radio. From 1952 to 1963 he served as KWTV's Chief Announcer and Music, Art and Creative Services Director. At KOCO-TV, he was Promotion Director and Director of Special Programs. In the late '70's he became co-owners of [l342570] and in 1981 became owner of his own audio production studio, Dillehay/Off Broadway. His face and voice on commercials, documentaries, television specials and live ceremonies such as the Western Heritage Awards, The Oklahoma Hall of Fame Awards, The Oklahoma Symphony Orchestra, The Oklahoma Diamond Jubilee, among countless others, have made him even more a part of the lives of Oklahomans. Gene Dillehay was also an award winning artist with his work displays in jurored shows and one-man exhibits. His paintings, drawings, photography and films along with his considerable talents in music editing have enhanced the image of all the fine arts. His interest in support for the arts broadened to serving on numerous arts and civic boards and committees as well as volunteering countless hours of his talents to a multitude of organizations, from the Boy Scouts of America to Lyric and Jewel Box Theaters to the Festival of The Arts to the various area universities and colleges, and many many more.
