Bennie Smith who mentored him from a very young age.
Around 1963 / 1964, he played on a live recording by
Ike & Tina Turner which was recorded at the Longhorn Ranch” in Dallas Forthwith Texas. By 1970, he was a member of
Motherlode's new line up. He composed Whippoorwil which was the B side of their single [m=1519058]. He was later in the
Isaac Hayes Movement. Shinault also provided the music for
Fred Williamson's 1976 film,
Death Journey. The intro song for the film was a cover of [m=85763] which was originally done by
People’s Choice.
