Dennis McCarthy (born 1945) is an American composer, mostly for TV shows and movies. He has composed music to several Star Trek shows, including Deep Space Nine, The Next Generation, Voyager and Enterprise; as well as to Dynasty, MacGyver, V: The Series and Parker Lewis Can't Lose.
Composer Dennis McCarthy began his musical career as an arranger and conductor for Glen Campbell. He also did orchestrations for the film WISE BLOOD by Alex North. His break in television music came with ENOS, a spin off of THE DUKES OF HAZZARD. The series was short lived and the musician's strike of 1981 sent him briefly back to variety television.
What began as a temporary solution to the strike became a hit series, THE BARBARA MANDRELL SHOW, for which he was musical director for three seasons.
After the strike ended, Dennis scored a wide variety of episodic series and several
movies for television, one of the most challenging being the six-hour mini-series
V: THE FINAL BATTLE, followed by the weekly TV series V.
Other series included episodes of THE NEW TWILIGHT ZONE, DYNASTY, MACGYVER, HOUSTON KNIGHTS. It was his work from V and THE TWILIGHT ZONE which got the attention of the producers of STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION. He was then asked to join the scoring team for the new series.STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE, STAR TREK: VOYAGER and the feature film STAR TREK GENERATIONS
