American alternative rock band led by brothers Brent and Darren Rademaker, the ’90s indie rock outfit Further transformed from an earlier band, Shadowland, who issued a pair of records for the Geffen label before being dropped and changing their name and sound. Whereas Shadowland were based in ’60s music, Further were more into making lots of lo-fi noise à la Dinosaur Jr. Along with drummer Kevin Fitzgerald and guitarist Josh Schwartz, the Rademaker brothers began cranking out singles for small labels, while issuing albums and EPs at a steady clip. Fitzgerald left the band after Grimes Golden, leaving the others to rotate on the drums. Their later recordings hinted toward the more psychedelic country style the band members would pursue in their next projects. After splitting up Further, Brent and Darren formed the Tyde, while Brent also formed the country-pop group Beachwood Sparks with Further auxiliary member Christopher Gunst.
