Johnson initially gained notoriety for his keyboard playing and engineering work with The Masters of Reality, Ian Astbury, and Scott Weiland. He contributed to the album Fallen by Evanescence, which led to a recording contract with RCA Records, and a music publishing contract with Hans Zimmer and Jay Rifkin's music company.
